You have to wait a little while longer to get Snape's full story; all the way up until The Deathly Hallows. Contrary to what you'd expect, the actual form the Patronus takes has no bearing on its power. There are no other characters which share the same Patronus form animal as do the Potters. Here are all the shapes their Patronus charms take plus Rowling's herself. Would love a peacock patronus though I accept its very rare. When a fan asked Rowling on Twitter if she would reveal the shape of Newt's Patronus, Rowling refused.
